Baylands Nature Preserve
Baylands Portfolio (2007)
The Baylands Nature Preserve is located in the city of Palo Alto at the lower end of San Francisco Bay. The salt marsh in the Preserve is the largest remaining area of the habitat that used to cover all of the lower bay. The area is rich in wildlife, especially birds.
Palo Alto has worked hard to maintain and restore the natural environment, but this is a challenge in the densely-populated urban area. The preserve is nestled between an airport and an active landfill. The Byxbee Art Park within the preserve is built on top of a former landfill.
